I'm in love with the world. By different cultures, history, by international politics, archaeology, human rights, anthropology and so much more. This is nothing more than the reflection of my curiosity for the other and for new horizons, something I bring with me from the time I used to lay down belly-up facing the clouds from the rooftop terrace of the building I used to live as a child. The rooftop terrace was the place where I used to observe the clouds passing by, trying to imagine what was after the clouds, or after the stars (when I used to skip during the night to observe the stars). Due to my difficulties with mathematics, I turned to the other side, social sciences and humanities. My passion for the Middle East, and international politics, took me in 1999, to study in the UK where I studied International Politics and the Third World, and then Middle East Politics.
After concluding my studies, in 2003, I joined a volunteer project that led me to travel through the Middle East by bike with more than 300 other women from around the world, while advocating for the rights of women and children, victims of the conflict in Israel. That was when I gave my first steps in gender equality, feminism and in humanitarian field. Since then, I have worked as a country coordinator for an organization for gender equality, worked briefly as a journalist at SIC News and the DN (Portuguese Media Companies), worked as a gender and human rights researcher for various international organizations, became an elections observer with European Commission, and made electoral assistance at the United Nations. But in the meantime, and because I am raising my daughter alone, I also had other odd jobs such as working as a secretary or as an operator within a call center. I learnt from all.
The travels have taken me to many places, some happy, some not so much, but all have earned a special place in my heart. Fell in love with Africa, by the red as blood earth colour and for its people resilient as a rock. Or by the eastern winds of Afghanistan and Pakistan ... everywhere, I found myself a little bit at a time.

I love field work, long jeep trips through unknown territories and the adrenaline that comes from the inherent danger of this job as an international political consultant. Got several scares. Gained unexpected friends.
But it is my role as a mother, that since 2005, where I feel happier, more complete and fulfilled. It is through writing in this blog, where I find space to portrait our experience as a mother and a daughter. I am the mother of a 12 year old girl, dreamy, princess, warrior, mighty, fighter, creative, retro, human, my daughter and my greatest love. A single parent family with many travels added to the mix, mishaps, disheveled moments, less glamorous at times, all fun but very happy. With many challenges, but much love and some humor. Amniótico blog is us two, and all others who feel reflected in it.

Sou uma apaixonada pelo mundo. Por culturas diferentes, pela história, por política internacional, arqueologia, direitos humanos, antropologia e tanta coisa mais. Isto não é mais do que o reflexo da minha curiosidade pelo outro e por novos horizontes que trago comigo desde os tempos em que ficava de barriga para o ar no terraço do prédio onde vivia em criança. Enquanto ficava a ver as nuvens passar, sonhava com o além nuvens, além estrelas (quando à noite fugia para as observar). Por causa da matemática, virei-me para o outro lado, o das letras e humanidades. A paixão pelo Médio Oriente, e por política internacional, levou-me em 1999, a ir estudar para o Reino Unido onde estudei Política Internacional e o Terceiro Mundo, tendo de seguida estudado Política do Médio Oriente.
No Final dos cursos, em 2003, ingressei num projecto de voluntariado que me levou a viajar pelo Médio Oriente de bicicleta com mais de cerca de 300 mulheres de todo o mundo, na luta pelos direitos de mulheres e crianças vitimas do conflicto em Israel. Onde dei as primeiras batidas de asas pelo feminismo e humanitário. Desde dessa altura, fui country coordinator de uma organização pela igualdade do género, jornalista onde passei brevemente pela SIC e pelo DN, pesquisadora de género e direitos humanos para várias organizações internacionais, observadora de eleições pela Comissão Europeia, e fiz assistência eleitoral nas Nações Unidas. Mas,nos entretantos para criar a minha filha sozinha, também tive outros biscates desde trabalhos como secretária a operadora em call-centers. Aprendi com todos. As viagens levaram-me a muitos lugares, uns felizes, outros menos mas todos ganharam um lugar especial no meu coração. Apaixonei-me por África, pela terra vermelha como o sangue e pela sua gente tão resiliente como uma rocha. Ou pelos ventos do oriente no Afeganistão e Paquistão…em todos os lugares, encontrei-me um pouco de cada vez.
Adoro o trabalho no terreno, longas viagens de jipe por territórios desconhecidos e a adrenalina do por vezes perigo inerente a esta profissão de consultora política internacional. Apanhei sustos. Ganhei amigos inesperados.
Mas é no meu papel de mãe, que desde 2005, me sinto mais feliz, mais completa e mais realizada. É através da escrita no Blog Amniótico que encontro o meu espaço onde retrato a nossa experiência, de mãe e filha. Sou mãe de uma menina de 12 anos, sonhadora, princesa, guerreira, poderosa, lutadora, criativa, retro, humana, minha filha e meu maior amor. Com muitas viagens à mistura, percalços, momentos desgrenhados, menos glamorosos, divertidos mas muito felizes de uma família monoparental. Com muitos desafios, mas muito amor e algum humor. Blog Amniótico, somos nós as duas, e são todos os que nele se espelham.
